I had originally planned to visit The Severn Valley Railway on Saturday 8th July followed by the Great Central Railway on Sunday 9th July 2023. The weather forecast for the West Midlands on Saturday was truly dire and best advice from the boss was to give that a miss. By Sunday withdrawal symptoms were acute and, although the initial forecast was not encouraging, I decided to give it a try. One diesel and two steam locomotives gave acceptable variety in these difficult times and for most of the day the weather was very good. Except for a brief shower of quite light rain about 15:30 when no trains were passing it remained dry until one minute before I reached home. Then the heavens opened; rain, thunder, lightening and even hail stones. Wasn’t I lucky?
