The GCR’s “Mind the Gap Weekend” on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th July 2026 was an event that covered both the North and South sections of Great Central Railway. My visit, last Sunday, concentrated entirely on the route south of Loughborough as I believe it offered more locations, albeit very familiar ones. With two steam locomotives, a diesel loco and a period DMU in service it looked like a busy day. So it proved, and a couple of additional diesel locomotives was an added bonus. It was quite busy all day and very thirsty work with the continuing ‘heat-wave’.
