Very few services on the old Great Central line were diesel hauled prior to the preservation era. However just before closure of through cross country workings Brush Type 4 locomotives were used on York - Bournemouth trains. Thus the scene reflects what was a common sight in 1965 when the locomotive, D1705, would have been newly built at Loughborough.
