After visiting the GCR Winter Steam Gala on Friday 26th January 2024 and finding it very busy I decided to make my second visit on Sunday 28th January hoping that it would be both less busy and cloudy, bright rather than the bright sun that prevailed for most of the day on Friday. I also hoped that the traffic delays experienced on Friday would have either been solved or the timetable rearranged to provide predictable running. I also intended to visit different locations that would increase the range of my photographs; particularly for 52322 that was expected to leave the GCR early in the coming week. Some of my ambitions were realised but the declaration of a medical emergency early in the afternoon generated an embargo on all train movements from which timetable and locomotive rostering recovery were impossible. As always is the case in these difficult circumstances, the GCR coped magnificently and efficiently.
