Our visit to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway on Tuesday 2nd August 2022 was very much a tourist affair rather than one by Railway Enthusiasts. We had been in Manchester the previous evening, our Wedding Anniversary, for the British Speedway Final at Belle Vue which unfortunately had to be abandoned after twelve races due to heavy rain leading to a water logged track. We had booked to stay overnight and Stephen joined us for breakfast the following morning which was his birthday. By the time we had had our breakfasts the rain had stopped and we decided to drive to Haworth and Oxenhope and see what was running on the KWVR. Ivatt 2-6-2T 41241 was in steam and waiting to depart from Oxenhope, so, tickets bought, we joined the train for a trip to Keighley. 41241 ended its days with BR at Skipton shed and, although it currently wears the LMS style red as when first returned to steam in private ownership, to me it will always remind me of travelling to school “on’t Barlick Spud”. We watched the diesel multiple unit 144 011 working the other train service and had a look around the Exhibition Shed at Oxenhope. An excellent day was rounded off by a superb three course Yorkshire Fish meal in Tingley before we returned home via Manchester.
