My day out on Saturday 16th March 2024 was intended to serve a dual purpose by combining The Cotswold Flyer running steam hauled between West London and Worcester and return and a visit to the GWSR. Due to my fault entirely, I managed to photograph the train only once! That was on the outward journey as the train passed Defford, just north of Eckington. The train was running rather late and for some unknown reason I failed to fire my second camera. My plans to photograph the train on the return journey at Aston Magna collapsed completely. I had left the GWSR in good time and after a simple journey arrived at my chosen location early to set up two cameras for the planned location. I was using my phone and
www.realtimetrains.co.uk to monitor the performance. 21 late leaving Worcester,18 down at Norton Junction and 17 behind at Evesham; it was certainly flying and I monitored the phone continuously expecting a report from Honeybourne. All of a sudden it came round the corner but I had no hands to fire the cameras. I might have felt like dropping the phone on the tarmac and jumping up and down on it! But that would have been petulant and it was, in truth, no-ones fault but mine. Thank you to Paul Day for providing me with a video for the record.
