You still cannot believe what you can see as this locomotive should not be numbered 45562. The problems began in late 2019 when WCRC decided to turn out their Jubilee locomotive in BR green livery. 45699 GALATEA had run in preservation in BR style red livery but appeared in late 2019 painted green and finished as 45562 ALBERTA. Although wrong in many details this change was generally appreciated as commemoration of the last Jubilee to remain in BR service as it was not withdrawn until November 1967. When steam returned to the main line post Covid lockdown in the late spring of 2021 observers were surprised to find that the locomotive carried the number 45627 on the smokebox and nameplates that read SIERRA LEONE but the cabside numbers were still 45562. Various excuses were offered and assurances given that this was only temporary but it has continued for months, irritates enthusiasts and makes the management of WCRC look foolish or impoverished, probably both.
