I made my only visit to the GCR 2023 Autumn Steam Gala on Thursday 5th October. Many will opine that I missed all the best parts that make big GCR Galas such spectacular events. There were two guest locomotives, visiting from other railways, and home based Modified Hall, now completely finished in a new version of the BR lined green livery with the early crest, operating the entire service on the day of my visit. With relatively few persons attending I had no problems finding a suitable viewpoint whenever I changed location and the weather remained just fine throughout without too deep shadows and glaring highlights from ‘full sun’. When I uploaded my images on returning home, I realised I had the pictures I wanted without any of the hassle of a typical busy Gala Day. Everything had run to time except the last departure from Loughborough which was a few minutes down. They should know by now that drivers will not leave Loughborough with less the 1000 gallons in the tender tank. Saint 2999 was on its fourth departure and its tender tank does not hold 4000 Gallons!
