Between Wednesday 29th May and Sunday 2nd June 2024 the GCR operated a passenger service on the Mountsorrel branch that involved steam locomotive haulage for the first time in several years. For reasons that I cannot now recall, I left it until the last day before venturing out. The trains to Mountsorrel were top and tailed with Austerity 0-6-0 Saddle Tank NCB 18 and BR Standard Class 2 2-6-0 78018 on the day I visited. The GCR main-line was operating a normal service with steam and diesel haulage that ensured a god yield of photographs in a relatively short time.
