Friday 17th June 2022 was forecast to be the hottest day of the year so far in England and the opportunity to photograph 6233 DUCHESS OF SUTHERLAND working a one way trip from Birmingham to York was too good to miss. All did not go to plan of course and through no fault of the locomotive, the train operating company or the timetablers I am pleased to say. The problems all arose due to the road system and various works that caused seemingly endless traffic delays. The plan was for four or maybe five locations but I was limited to just two and quite lucky with the second as the train was then five minutes early. Still the weather forecast was correct with bright sun and enough breeze to make short periods out of the car tolerable. No exhaust to speak of but gone are the days of clag with current coal shortages and environmental concerns.
