I had been told by some modern image enthusiasts that the steam excursion was unlikely to return via the S & C due to flooding in the Blackburn area. The timing for turning and servicing the steam locomotive was very tight; particularly as there was no diesel locomotive at the back of the train. I headed to London Road, Carlisle to see what evolved. I believe this photograph shows 1E17, the 07:55 from Inverness to London Kings Cross, approaching London Road Junction before crossing the Northern Pennines to Newcastle to reach the East Coast Main-Line.
