With hindsight the weekend of 2nd/3rd March 2024 turned out to be a celebration of 5MT locomotives. It was not started that way as I had intended to visit the East Coast Main-line to photograph 60007 SIR NIGEL GRESLEY when it ran from London to York. However, the weather forecast rather put a dampener on that (pun intended) so I thought the West Coast Main-line with 44871 running The Cheshireman from London to Chester would give better conditions. Although I saw plenty of rain throughout and even significant slushy snow on the return between Chester and Crewe it was not actually raining at any of the four locations I used. 44871 was in fine form although I suspect that 47 815 contributed significantly to the effort. I misjudged the light level for my final shots at Atherstone on the return journey but I have included them just for the record. Sometimes we all get it wrong!
