Bank Holiday Monday, 2nd May 2022 was unusual for the GCR in that it was the second titled special event in a single weekend. It had been proposed originally that the May Day Bank Holiday in 2022 would be integrated with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations at the beginning of June. Later, other thoughts prevailed after the Spring Diesel Gala had been publicised, and the first Monday in May was to be a Public Holiday after all. The Mixed Traffic Day featured two diesel and three steam locomotives; all in 1960’s period BR liveries. It was a busy timetable and bound to be a success with both enthusiasts and photographers. Sit back and let the good times roll!
