"The Chatsworth Christmas Sparkle Express" was a Saphos excursion that, on 8th December 2021, ran from Carnforth to Chesterfield using the West Coast Mainline as far as Nuneaton where it switched to the former Midland route to Leicester, Trent, Alfreton and eventually Chesterfield. There the passengers left the train to travel to Chatsworth by road. The empty train continued to Barrow Hill for servicing before it returned north after dark. It was a windy and showery day with, at times, very bright sunny intervals that made photography of Black Five 4-6-0 44871 quite difficult.
