On 20th November 2021 we were spoiled for steam hauled trains on the main line. CLAN LINE in the Surrey Hills involved a long journey in Christmas traffic. There was uncertainty about the order in which locomotives would work the Lickey Banker trains and the banker was to be a Class 47 diesel not 9466 but a Black Five running through from London to Chester was the clear winner for me. It ran to time and gave me three locations to view the outward journey - the extra one between Tamworth and Crewe proved over optimistic. The return run was after dark so I managed to see the afternoon Lickey for good measure. The photos may not be of the highest quality but the day out most certainly was.
