With no certainty about steam haulage on the main line due to the on-going risk of line-side fires, I decided that the GCR’s diesel hauled services at least offered a level of predictability and the likelihood of trains running to time. So it turned out and both Deltic 55 009 and Peak D123 were smartly turned out and did their jobs very well. There was no steam hauled dining car express as there is an issue with gas supply for the cooking that has resulted in all dining trains being withdrawn for the foreseeable future. It is amazing what you discover when you ask the right people!
