I had received an email that indicated that High Speed Testing was expected on the GC between Monday 10th June and Wednesday 12th June and again from Monday 17th June to Wednesday 19th June 2024. To me, that meant TORNADO so I opted to spend some time on the GC on Wednesday 12th as that was the best of a poor set of weather forecasts. I had a look over the wall on Beeches Road and saw some smoke in Loughborough Station. Standing in Loughborough Station was 8F 2-8-0 48305 carrying a Wedding Special headboard. So, at least something would be running. I had a look over the walls from Empress Road bridge but there was no sign. of TORNADO. My conclusion was that it must be up the line so heading to the A6 bridge was optimum. As I drove over that bridge, I had a glimpse of something ‘blue’ around Woodthorpe but I was concentrating on parking and, by the time I had crossed the road with a camera in my hand, the ‘mirage’ had gone. I spent the morning watching the up line advanced starting signal and hoping for action on the down line. I thought I saw something approaching Loughborough from the Quorn direction but it promptly disappeared. Eventually the up line advanced starting signal cleared and I was able to record 48305 hauling the single coach Wedding Special leaving Loughborough. After lunch I decided to concentrate on the southern section of the line with more success but no sign of TORNADO.
