The first weekend in June 2023 was a return to normal for the GCR and saw the return, post COVID-19, of the 1940’s event. My interest, as usual, was in the trains rather than the social events in and around the stations. Everything was normal GCR stock with four steam locomotives supported by diesel multiple units. In this present situation with several locomotives under overhaul only one item of motive power saw service in the 1940 decade. That was Stanier Class 8F 2-8-0 48305 which was built in 1943. All the others were 1950s production. Still the weather was mainly good and there were ample photographic opportunities.
