The driver of Stanier Jubilee Class 6P 4-6-0 45627 SIERRA LEONE gave us a master-class in steam locomotive driving technique when leaving Hellifield with “The Cumbrian Mountain Express” on Saturday 26th February 2022. Cylinder drains open for two or three revolutions of the driving wheels then shut to allow the train to accelerate slowly towards the crossing over the main lines. Not a trace of a slip either!
