Saturday 15th February 2025 had turned out to be very poor weatherwise and meant that it made no sense to go mainline to see and photograph “The Valentine White Rose” heading from London Kings Cross to York and return to Peterborough steam hauled. A black five on the ECML in persistent rain did not really inspire anyway. Sunday 16th was much more encouraging; at least it was forecast to be dry all day although very cold and dull. The Great Central offered an all steam timetable with three locomotives in an enhanced service, possibly for the start of local schools’ half-term holiday. It was a home fleet based event with all BR Standard locomotives in action.
