“The Shakespeare Express” is a train name that will always be associated with the Tyseley operation based in Birmingham. For many years it has been a regular feature for preserved steam in the summer months mainly between mid-July and early September. The trains that ran on Sunday 12th February 2023 were unusual for this time of the year. Maybe it had something to do with the forthcoming Valentine’s Day. However, a booked afternoon departure from Stratford-upon-Avon at 16:13 did not hold a promise for good light in mid-February. As things turned out the day was largely overcast but there was sufficient light, just, to acquire tolerable pictures. As always, CLUN CASTLE looked and appeared to work extremely well. I was glad I ventured out.
