"The Settle & Carlisle Circular" was a diesel powered tour promoted by Statesman Rail and operated by Locomotive Services Limited that ran from Wolverhampton to Appleby and return. The outward journey was via the S & C then returning over Shap. I was on London Road, Carlisle, when this tour used the Carlisle avoiding line between London Road and Upperby Junctions. Photography was an opportunity too good to ignore.
