The 2023 Spring Diesel Gala was an essentially home fleet event with only one guest D8568, the unique Clayton Type 1. Technically, the Derby Lightweight single car DMBS M79900 was also a visitor but it has played a significant role at the GCR for a considerable time and seems quite at home. The morning went very well with almost every train close to time both in and out of Loughborough. Unfortunately, while I was away from the line at lunchtime ‘Peak’ D123 failed and almost the entire afternoon timetable had to be adapted to cover the shortage. There simply wasn’t another locomotive available. The weather was very kind and the event was most enjoyable. A great day out!
