On Saturday 6th April 2024 Railway Touring Company promoted a steam hauled excursion from Norwich to Worcester. The allocated locomotive was ‘Black Five’4-6-0 44871 which was booked to work the outward train from Norwich to Worcester and a continuation with empty stock to Gloucester for servicing. It would then return the train through Worcester, where the passengers would rejoin, and continue steam hauled to the outskirts of Leicester. The train was then booked to return to Norwich diesel hauled with WCRC 47 848. For me it was an ideal train to photograph; passing close to home and with the long pause in Gloucester an ideal excuse for lunch on the GWSR.
