A friend and neighbour passed to me a painting that he had acquired in a recent sale showing the exterior of Derby Midland Station. The painting was dated 1991 but the scene depicts the station as it was in the mid-1950s. The Evening Telegraph van was a Morris Minor based vehicle with a split windscreen, probably a Series II model with 803 cc OHV engine. The trolley bus belonged to Derby Corporation and there was an AEC diesel engined bus behind that was probably part of the Trent fleet. The Riley RMA, the FX2 taxi and the Scarab mechanical horse with trailer are all compatible with circa 1955. Oh! And what about that motor-cycle combination? Anyone taking a copy of any of these images must not sell without permission; the copyright belongs to the artist, COLIN WRIGHT.
