On Saturday 19th March 2022 SAPHOS promoted a rail tour from York to Stratford-upon-Avon that was steam hauled south of Crewe in both directions with 45231 THE SHERWOOD FORESTER. My original plans had concentrated more on an excursion from Euston to Chester with Duchess of Sutherland. Unfortunately the Chester train was rearranged to run diesel hauled with very little notice and I was badly prepared to photograph the SAPHOS tour. I got lost trying to find a location near Hardwick that I used many years ago then found a bridge I used near Washwood Heath was closed so I had to settle for locations I use with Tyseley’s “Shakespeare Express” trains. In the end I saw the locomotive pass by on four occasions so that was reasonably satisfactory.
