It was largely by chance that I discovered that Saphos were promoting an excursion from Peterborough to Worcester and return with steam haulage between West London and Worcester on Wednesday 15th November 2023. It was also a correct guess that the steam motive power would be BR(SR) West Country Class 4-6-2 34046 BRAUNTON Which I haven’t seen in quite a while. With a reasonable weather forecast and feasible times I thought it worth a trip to Worcester although the number of shots would be low and not very adventurous. Time keeping by service trains in the morning was poor leading to a 45 minute late arrival by the steam hauled excursion and a late departure in the afternoon from Worcester meant that there was very little light remaining by the time the train was underway. In spite of these issues, it was good to do a main-line train again.
