Due to persistent hot, dry conditions it had to be expected that the first regular Shakespeare Express in the 2026 season would be diesel hauled. I had hoped that the diesel would be 47 773, purely as it carries two tone green livery, but I rather expected that Vintage Trains would deploy 37 240. The train ran to time and the diesel performed well, as expected. “The Shakespeare Pullman” headboard did not sit well on the front of a class 37. Better left behind if this weather continues as predicted!
