It might have been reasonable to expect the management of the GCR to have in place some plans to cope with the likelyhood of lineside fires after a period of exceptional hot, dry weather. But that does not seem to have been the case. At Kinchley Lane only the diesel hauled 10:50 down from Leicester North to Loughborough passed over half an hour late. No signs of the 11:20, 12:00 and 12:50 up services from Loughborough and absolutely nothing on the Company Website! Eventually 78019 appeared with presumably the second DALEX run followed by two diesel hauled trains representing some combination of lunchtime services advertised as 12:50, 13:00 and 14:00 Loughborough departures. A brief conversation with a member of Quorn Station Staff indicated that no special timetable had been issued and that up departures from Loughborough, diesel hauled, were expected at 14:45, 15:30 and 16:15. I suppose that is roughly what occured, but with locomotive and stock available the 15:30 managed to leave half an hour late. Checking the Website today, there is no comment, apology or explanation of what had occured. Word has it there were two serious lineside fires with the Fire Service in attendance. Bring back the CCT with water supply and fire beaters.
