"The Cumbrian Mountain Express" on Saturday 20th July 2019 was a return trip between Crewe and Carlisle. The steam haulage on the outward leg was over the S & C and the return was over Shap. For me it was the first chance to see 6201 PRINCESS ELIZABETH after Carnforth completed the latest overhaul. Mostly this seems to have been successful but the departure from Appleby was very poor - you would have expected better from a Black Five or Jubilee. Climbing away from Carlisle, near Southwaite, was superb but nevertheless time had been lost.
