On Saturday the 13th April 2024 I had a day off from Railway Photography and did some long overdue work in the garden. Sunday 14th was however a must go day with two trains running on the main-line that I wanted to see and photograph. The first of these was “The Great Britain XVI”, which on Day 2 of the week long tour, was running between Cheltenham Spa and Lancaster with two Black Fives and a support diesel. Much of the route was under 25 kV electric wires so I selected carefully a couple of locations where there is no overhead electrification. The reason for not going further north than the West Midlands was not only avoiding the dreaded wires but also the second train I wanted to see was running in the afternoon between Paddington and Birmingham and I wanted to see that also at locations without electrification masts and wires. As for the Great Britain, it was the first time I had photographed it since 2019 and I was pleased to get a few sots on Day 2, but I doubt that I shall see it again in 2024. There is too much going on elsewhere on April 20th and 21st.
