The 2026 Great Britain XVIII rail-tour was an eight day excursion starting in London Paddington, heading south-west to Penzance on day one. It headed north on day two to Chester via the Welsh Marches and on day three took a circuitous route from Chester to Carlisle, including the Peak district, the Yorkshire Dales and the Eden Valley. Days four, five and six were in Scotland visiting Fort William, Mallaig and Aberdeen. On day seven the train was to head south along the fabulous east coast with its magnificent sea views to Newcastle upon Tyne. The final day, number eight, was a return to London, steam hauled from York; not the direct route through Grantham and Peterborough but taking in West Yorkshire to Chesterfield and then the East Midlands to Kettering before switching to the West Coast Main-Line at Bletchley for a fast run to London Euston.
