46100 ROYAL SCOT was about to enter the short tunnel under London Road, Carlisle, with the empty stock that would in due course form "The Lakelander" for the return run around the Cumbrian Coast and back to Crewe and Wolverhampton. The cylinder drains are still open but with little effect on the photograph.
