The diesel locomotive that was attached at the back of the train was able to draw the entire train back from Citadel Station to Upperby for servicing. When this was completed it was simple to turn the entire train using the spur that connects the West Coast Line at Upperby with the Newcastle and Carlisle at London Road Junction. I had quite a long wait near London Road Junction until 46100 ROYAL SCOT slowly eased round the curve and stood in front of me waiting for a clear road ahead.
