In 2022 the GCR ran their Spring Diesel Gala on the three days immediately before the May Day Bank Holiday. I couldn’t attend on Friday 29th April as that was the day I had arranged to collect my latest car. It was a difficult decision whether to go on the Saturday or the Sunday as the weather forecast was not especially good on either day. As Bank Holiday Monday was a Steam + Diesel Mixed Traffic Day on the GCR I decided to do GCR on Saturday and The Battlefield Line on Sunday then return for Mixed Traffic on Monday. What busy lives we lead! Unfortunately I missed seeing 55 009 ALICYDON which failed on the first day, Friday, after putting up a dismal performance by all reports. In my opinion, for what it’s worth, the GCR did a very good job in covering the Deltic’s turns. It was a very entertaining day.
