The GCR’s Santa trains for 2023 have changed significantly for the first time in several years. It seems that the intention is to provided an improved service with fewer trains and integrate some of the catering services into the Santa programme. We can only hope that the new approach generates at least as much income as did the previous high intensity service. Another significant change for 2023 is the absence of ‘Winter Wonder-lights’. I thought that would ensure that the locomotives and carriages were not adorned in fairy lights, etc. but which elderly genius ordered tinsel to adorn the boiler and smokebox handrails of 6990 WITHERSLACK HALL? Don’t they know that naff is part of the vocabulary of children of five or younger? You go tell’em kids!
