The 2022 Last Hurrah Gala took place on 19th- 20th November. It was essentially a home fleet event using five locally based steam locomotives with just one diesel electric. A late change to the advertised motive power involved the use of the only visitor; Derby Lightweight single car DMU M79900 proved to be a popular replacement for the home-based green Metropolitan-Cammell 3-car set. I have been told that my decision to visit on the Sunday was wise and that, until about three o’clock, the weather was better than on the Saturday. I’m not sure because there was some low fierce sun to contend with but it remained essentially fine until almost the end of the afternoon. I thought the railway, as usual, put on an entertaining show and I heard very few complaints even from the usual moaners and groaners!
