North Eastern Railway Autocar No.3170 was built at York in 1903 as a petrol electric vehicle to the design of Wilson Worsdell. With inevitable concerns over fire safety it was rebuilt as a diesel railcar in 1923. After it was withdrawn by the LNER its grounded body was used as a holiday home. The body was rescued and restored and has been combined with the chassis from a withdrawn GNR bogie brake van 2391 and the power bogie from a 2EPB (Class 416/2) EMU. It is an incredible survivor and a real pleasure to see it operating service trains 117 years after entering traffic.
