The GCR Railways at Work event on 19th and 20th March 2022 looked to be promising with seven locomotives and a DMU running an intensive service. Unfortunately three of the five steam locomotives were facing north and the popular argument about just as many trips are chimney first as tender first makes no allowance for the position of the sun. However it was a good choice of medium sized locomotives except for the Peak diesel which is always regarded as a heavyweight. Sorry for so many repeat photos but I was enjoying myself and got a bit carried away. The only poor show was two lineside fires caused by over exuberance by the crews but it was possible the spark arrestors were not in place. In the days of lineside permits we would have had them out in seconds but in the current era it probably took half an hour to complete the risk assessment.
