The second part of my day out on Sunday 14th April 2024 involved also careful planning to avoid 0verhead wires and all the associated paraphernalia. The train was a loaded test run for D1015 WESTERN CHAMPION from London Paddington to Birmingham New Street via Oxford, Leamington, Coventry and Bescot. I decided to opt for two locations, either side of Banbury where timing was predictable and access was easy. The train ran very close to time throughout and it was good for me to see and hear those two Maybach MD655s hard at work. Very reminiscent of my return journeys from London to Reading in the early 70s.
