Following my very enjoyable visit to the GWSR on Saturday 27th May 2023 I decided to return when 4079 was booked as STEAM 1; most likely on Monday 29th May. As it turned out we had a family event on the Bank Holiday Monday that caused plans to be changed. 4079 was booked as STEAM 1 for the remainder of its time at the GWSR and, with some confusion on the website about Thursday 1st June, I rescheduled my visit to Wednesday 31st May. Why all this fuss about STEAM 1 you might ask? Well STEAM 1 completes three runs from Cheltenham to Broadway and that increases the number of photographs that can be taken of a north facing locomotive at work. Simple, isn’t it? I thought myself very clever until on arrival I discovered that the roster had been rearranged without warning and 4079 was working as STEAM 2 on Wednesday 31st May 2023. Nothing could be done; I resisted the instinct to go off in a sulk and set out to really enjoy my visit.
