I enjoyed so much my visit to the GCR the previous day that I resolved to go again on Sunday 16th October 2022. The internet showed the same three locomotives but the Ivatt and Stanier steam locomotives were planned to exchange roles and work opposite turns. I have never known the GCR to be so quiet with no lineside photographers in evidence on Saturday and only three others on Sunday. That is a shame because so much of the enjoyment came from the banter that regularly passed between us. But preserved railway management set out to simply destroy us so let them wallow in the financial insecurity that they brought upon themselves. The weather on Sunday was even better than the day before but timekeeping was not nearly as good on the Sunday as it had been on the Saturday. The evidence is clear from this weekend. If the 09:20 departure runs to time there is no reason why anything else should be late. On Sunday 16th the 09:20 was fifteen minutes late arriving at Leicester North. That made the first DALEX late which made the 10:15 late which in turn delayed the second DALEX. On Sunday 16th the 11:20 managed to run on time but I have known many days when the first train to leave Loughborough on time has been the 14:00 diesel! Is someone involved with the departure of the 09:20 getting too much ale (or something else) on a Saturday night?
