I visited the GCR on Sunday 29th June 2025 as I had not been out to photograph trains for a couple of weeks and I had the customary withdrawal symptoms! The company website indicated diesel haulage for all trains except the diner which was booked for Standard 5 73156; not a noted fire thrower. The diesel was expected to be 55 019 ROYAL HIGHLAND FUSILIER with the blue Metro-Cammell set running to Mountsorrel three times during the day. That, in these hot and humid times, was as much as can be expected. All went well, but 73156 was replaced by 50 017 ROYAL OAK which to me made perfect sense. It was very hot, cloudy with only very little light rain but very humid throughout. Disappointingly, I did not see another soul taking photographs of the trains. Maybe they are as disgusted as I am about the decision by Patching to evict Black Five 45491 and voted with their feet. It is a very significant survivor that deserves preservation and restoration.
