I have described the disappointment of Armathwaite and I decided not to attempt the high ground in the fells but made instead for the Settle area. All the way from Ingleton it snowed continuously. I headed for the overbridge near Anley, just south of Settle. It was still snowing when I first sighted exhaust steam but it had stopped moments before the train came into view. The signal shows the line is clear ahead and 45699 GALATEA continues to work as "The Cathedrals Express" approaches Settle Junction.
