For me, like many other enthusiasts, the 2024 Cotswold Festival of Steam was an event not to be missed. Three guest locomotives were supporting the home fleet to ensure ample variety although there was rather more double heading and topping and tailing than I prefer. After many non-appearances this year I was confident that new build Grange would actually be operational at this event. All locomotives, except for Mogul 9351, were supposed to be facing south so that suggested to me ‘a choose a location and stay put’ approach as chasing backwards and forwards was likely to be very unpredictable with limited access. Understandably, there was no public access to stations and other railway sites except to ticket holders. I had to make the best I could of locations close to the public highway and chose bridges on Dixton Lane, near Prescott and Stanton Road north of Toddington. The road to Hailes Abbey was very busy and the large number of photographers must have been a public nuisance.
