Bank Holiday Monday 28th August 2023 was an opportunity to visit the GCR once again. It was a normal service operated by two locomotives, one steam and one diesel. No dining car express was run on this occasion. I had mixed feelings about the use of the ‘City of Leicester Holiday Express’ that adorned the Class 5 4-6-0’s smokebox throughout the day and thought ‘5305 Locomotive Association’ carried at the north end of D123 quite unnecessary. Still the trains ambled along and provided entertainment and the usual photographic opportunities.
