"The Pannier Rambler IV" epitomised the problems of main-line steam in 2016. The weather was diabolical as forecast for the first leg of the tour but the locomotives seemed on top of the job. While waiting for the second stage it became clear all was not well as the Stratford departure grew later and later. Eventually word circulated that 9600 had failed and would be replaced, if necessary, by diesel at Tyseley. So it turned out - but was it necessary for D1755 to be positioned in front of bunker first 9466?
