"The Christmas White Rose" on Thursday 20th December 2018 was combined with a Christmas shopping trip to McArthur Glen at York. As I drove past Milford on the A162 Val thought she saw steam behind the usual line of freight wagons. Only when we arrived in the rain at Colton did we discover that the Duchess had been out to turn and was already closer than Church Fenton. Within seconds photographs were taken of the light engine Duchess and the Gresley A4 which was now running ten minutes early with the down train. Shame it was still raining!
