As the weekend of 15-16th October 2022 approached I was uncertain of what to do and where to go. The main line was hopeless; it’s too far to go when you are unsure of the motive power. I ruled out the Severn Valley as I had visited there only a week before, I decided it should be the GWSR but then realised that the M42 was closed all weekend that would make journey times unpredictable in both directions. It had to be the old faithful GCR with all the complications of access to suitable locations that entails for two days on the trot. I had some shopping to do on Saturday 15th October 2022 which meant I could not get to the railway before the 11:20 departure from Loughborough. No problem there however because the light doesn’t really penetrate the cutting approaching the A6 bridge until round that time. It was a very enjoyable day out and what a shock to see how bad Kinchley Lane has become having not visited there for many months.
