The GCR traditionally starts its Santa Season in late November and 2018 was no exception with trains running on Saturday 24th and Sunday 24th November to a very limited timetable. On the Sunday when I visited there were three Santa Specials running in top & tail formation with a diesel electric locomotive at the south end of the train and a steam locomotive at the north end, chosen so that it was tender first when leading the train towards Loughborough. There was also a steam locomotive hauled dining car train as usual throughout the year.
